Jeepers Creepers

1938년 개봉한 영화 Going Places에 삽입된 곡이다. 당시 할리우드 영화에서 흑인들이 서로에게 노래를 불러주는 씬은 나올 수 없었다고 한다. 결국 영화에서는 루이 암스트롱이 Jeepers Creepers라는 이름의 경주마에게 노래를 부르고 연주하는 장면이 나온다. 믿기 어려웠는데 유튜브를 찾아보니 진짜로 나온다.(…) 참고로 당시에 Jeepers Creepers는 맙소사!(지저스 크라이스트!)를 나타내는 은어였다고 한다. 가사는 전체적으로 크고 매력적인 경주마(원래는 사람이었겠지?)의 눈을 찬양하는 내용인 것 같고, 라임을 맞추려고 노력한 흔적이 보인다. 사실 이 곡은 스윙을 하기 전에 미드 프렌즈에서 처음 접했다. 모니카의 사촌 할머니? 였나.. 암튼 나이 든 할머니가 남편 장례식에서 음식을 해 준 모니카에게 음식값을 지불 안 하려고 슬픈 척을 하지만, 피아노 앞에서는 노래를 신명 나게 불러 제끼는 장면. 그때 그 할머니가 부르던 곡이 바로 지퍼스 크리퍼스였다. 소셜 때는 거의 나오지 않았던 것 같은데..아티쇼 버전은 그래도 그럭저럭 소셜에서 출만 하다.
